About Dakshinachitra

DakshinaChitra is an exciting cross cultural living museum of art, architecture, lifestyles, crafts and performing arts of South India. You can explore 17 heritage houses, amble along recreated streetscapes, explore contextual exhibitions, interact with typical village artisans and witness folk performances set in an authentic ambience. DakshinaChitra literally means – “a picture of the south”.

Distance – About 21 kms from the heart of chennai, about a km or 2 before muttukadu boat house and right next to MGM Dizee World – theme park

What do we intend to do ?

CPC has been to dakshinachitra many times and this is a repeat location. What one can expect from this event

  1. Hone the ability to control exposure under low light (the exposure triangle)
  2. Learn interesting composition from fellow photographers
  3. Low light handheld shots
  4. Get to know about your camera and its ability
  5. Understand the limitations of the Point and Shoot camera

The plan

For the first time we will be having the event on a sunday afternoon as Dakhshinachitra comes alive only at 10 AM and the light would have become harsh by that time. We plan to be capturing some good light in the afternoon light

2.00 PM – Reach Dakshinachitra (after a peaceful lunch at home)

2.15 PM – Assemble at the Andra Pradesh House

6.00 PM – Close of Shuttershoot

PS : Please note that we will not be using the name of Chennai Photography Club at the venue we are all friends who have come to see dakshinachitra

Cost of the event

CPC will not be collecting any fees for this event, however the members will need to bear the entrance fees of RS 75 and for the food , cool drinks, etc that they consume during the event

What to bring and what not to bring

To Bring

  • Camera – either PNS or SLR
  • If bringing SLR the following types of lenses will be more useful
    • Ultra wide angle
    • Macro
  • Off camera flash if you have one
  • Lots of water and enthusiasm

Not to bring

  • Tripods – dakshinachitra management hates them

Registration

There will be a limit of 15 photographers during this event please ensure that you register only if you are sure that you will attend. Rain or shine the event will happen.
